Founded in April 2025, RAINES is a community for Korean professionals working and researching in the Robotics and AI fields throughout the New England area. Following up on our highlight reel, we wanted to share the full story of K-RAINES' inaugural year. From our launch in April with just an idea, to closing December with nearly 100 innovators in our ranks, this slide deck captures the moments that defined us. On November 17th, K-RAINES successfully hosted its fall networking event, "The Physical AI Era: Korea-US New Technology Cooperation," at CIC Venture Café in Cambridge. This special event, sponsored by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Boston, Overseas Koreans Agency, TIPA (Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs), and Carbon Black, brought together 48 attendees to explore the exciting frontier of Physical AI. The event began with sponsor speeches, starting with Deputy Consul General Kwak Jung-yeol (곽정열) from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Boston, followed by Director Lee Hoon-bae (이훈배) from TIPA and Advisor HK Kwon (권혁민) representing Carbon Black. Three distinguished speakers then shared their insights: CEO Lee Gil-woo from Zordi, Prof. Benjamin Marlin from University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Prof. Kim Chang-ik from KAIST. The event featured engaging presentations and Q&A sessions, followed by a panel discussion with all speakers, and concluded with networking and dinner, fostering meaningful connections and collaboration between Korea and the US in advancing AI technologies. This event marked a wonderful conclusion to the year, bringing together the community to share knowledge and build lasting relationships in the Boston tech ecosystem.
지난 11월 17일, K-RAINES는 케임브리지 CIC 벤처 카페에서 'Physical AI 시대의 한미 신기술 협력'이라는 주제로 추계 네트워킹 행사를 성황리에 개최했습니다. 주보스턴 총영사관, 재외동포청, 중소기업기술정보진흥원(TIPA), 카본 블랙의 후원으로 마련된 이번 행사에는 48명의 전문가가 참석하여 Physical AI의 최전선을 탐구했습니다. 행사는 주보스턴 총영사관 곽정열 부총영사님, TIPA 이훈배 소장님, 그리고 카본 블랙의 권혁민 어드바이저님의 축사로 시작되었습니다. 이어 Zordi 이길우 대표님, 매사추세츠 대학교 Benjamin Marlin 교수님, KAIST 김창익 교수님 등 세 분의 연사님이 심도 있는 인사이트를 공유해 주셨습니다. 특히 강연 후 이어진 Q&A와 패널 토론, 그리고 네트워킹 만찬을 통해 한미 간 AI 기술 협력을 위한 실질적인 교류가 이루어졌습니다. 이번 행사는 올 한 해를 뜻깊게 마무리하며 보스턴 테크 생태계 내에서 커뮤니티의 결속을 다지는 소중한 시간이 되었습니다.

This seminar, hosted by the Korean Consulate in Boston, brought together experts and enthusiasts to explore the future of AI-powered robotics and autonomous driving. Dr. Haewon Park shared insights on social robots, while Prof. Yoon Kim discussed large language models, sparking engaging conversations on emerging technologies. The event fostered US-Korea collaboration, offering a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and building new connections in the Boston tech community.
주보스턴 대한민국 총영사관의 후원으로 열린 이번 세미나에서는 전문가와 업계 관계자들이 모여 AI 기반 로보틱스와 자율주행의 미래를 심도 있게 논의했습니다. MIT 미디어랩의 박혜원 박사님은 소셜 로봇에 대한 인사이트를, MIT EECS의 김윤형 교수님은 대규모 언어 모델(LLM)에 대한 최신 지견을 공유하며 활발한 토론을 이끌었습니다. 이번 행사는 한미 기술 협력을 강화하고, 보스턴 테크 커뮤니티 내 전문가들이 지식을 나누며 새로운 인연을 맺는 소중한 장이 되었습니다.

On August 21st, we successfully concluded the K-RAINES Summer Seminar: Recent Advances in AI Problem Solving at the newly renovated Boston Consulate General! With a sold-out capacity of 55 attendees, this seminar was conducted with tremendous enthusiasm. Dr. Jungkoo Kang from IBM Research shared insights on LLM-based problem solving and workflow generation, while Prof. Junehyuk Jung from Brown University & Google DeepMind presented research on automated mathematical reasoning. We had meaningful time with insights from two speakers at the forefront of AI research, along with networking and dinner with participants. Thanks to the various prizes provided by the Boston Consulate General, we also enjoyed a fun raffle time, and most participants were able to take home a gift :) We thank the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Boston, Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT), Rainbow Robotics, and all attendees who joined us for this seminar! K-RAINES will continue to create more opportunities for learning and exchange with various people.
지난 8월 21일, 새롭게 단장한 주보스턴 총영사관에서 'K-RAINES 하계 세미나: AI 문제 해결의 최신 동향'을 성황리에 마쳤습니다! 55명 정원 매진이라는 뜨거운 관심 속에 진행된 이번 세미나에서는 IBM 리서치의 강정구 박사님이 LLM 기반 문제 해결 및 워크플로우 생성을, 브라운 대학교 및 구글 딥마인드의 정준혁 교수님이 수학적 추론 자동화 연구를 공유해 주셨습니다. AI 연구의 최전선에 있는 두 연사님의 인사이트를 듣고, 참가자분들과 네트워킹 및 만찬을 즐기며 뜻깊은 시간을 보냈습니다. 또한 주보스턴 총영사관에서 준비해 주신 다양한 경품 덕분에 더욱 즐거운 래플 시간이 되었으며, 많은 분이 기분 좋게 선물을 안고 돌아가셨습니다 :) 이번 세미나를 위해 함께해 주신 주보스턴 대한민국 총영사관, 한국산업기술기획평가원(KEIT), 레인보우로보틱스, 그리고 모든 참석자분께 깊은 감사를 드립니다!
